Advanced Process Control Business Unit
The Work
APC project work takes our engineers directly into control rooms of client plants in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Our people have the opportunity to apply their engineering and communication skills to solve real life industrial control problems, see immediate results of their work in real working plants and earn the respect of fellow professionals. At home, they are part of a dynamic team of highly educated, well-trained technical professionals.
APC engineers use state of the art on-line data acquisition and graphic tools to collect data, monitor the performance of the DMCplus™ controller or the underlying DCS, perform instrumentation diagnoses, or tune control loops. This can be done live, for many simultaneous control variables and can be extended to long historical intervals.
APC projects are executed in the following order:
- The controller is designed: this includes selection of the plant segment for implementation, selection of variables, and definition of operational constraints and economic targets;
- Our engineers ensure that the operation of the underlying DCS and associated instrumentation are complete and finely tuned;
- A process test is run to collect the appropriate data needed later in the process model;
- The process model is created and the controller is assembled and configured;
- The completed controller is installed and commissioned at the client plant;
- Plant operators and engineers are trained in the use of the installed controller; and
- System documentation is turned over to the plant and a maintenance program is recommended.
The successful completion of an APC project demands dedication, use of analytical skills, close attention to detail, teamwork, and continuous communication with client personnel and fellow team members. The result is an exciting, highly rewarding professional experience.
