Real Time Optimization
We use commercially available, menu-driven modeling software capable of handling large plants and suitable for generating high fidelity rigorous process models. These models are integrated with the plant’s DCS and receive data indicating the current plant operational conditions. Then, the most profitable operational point is calculated. This is translated as a set of set points sent to the plant’s distributed or advanced control system.
Real time optimization produces benefits that advanced process control alone would not capture, since it takes advantage of the high degree of heat integration of modern plants and the underlying non-linearity.
Need for Dynamic Simulation in the Process Industry
Dynamic simulation provides invaluable insight into process behavior and offers the opportunity for improved understanding throughout the plant lifecycle: design, commissioning, and operation phases.
Dynamic simulators are typically used for applications such as:
-
Detailed Process Design
-
Troubleshooting / De-bottlenecking Operations
-
Engineering Studies for Process Modifications
-
Assessment of Control Performance and Controllability
-
Validation of DCS databases
Applications can range from small studies of specific equipment performance to detailed models of full-scale plants. During the conceptual design stages, the added perspective of accurate dynamic simulation enhances innovation and facilitates the early identification and resolution of problems.
Complete plant models in conjunction with control systems are used to evaluate control configurations, develop the skills of an operations team and facilitate ongoing manufacturing improvement.
Hyperion uses modern, user friendly simulation and flow-sheeting software with pull-down menus and drag-and-drop capabilities. Thus, it is easy for the customer to learn and use.
Dynamic simulation helps process and power generation companies to significantly improve overall plant efficiency and bottom-line performance and to provide the ideal basis for efficient, risk-free operator training, and operations improvement.
During the past several years, dynamic simulation has been recognized as a key-enabling technology in the process industries.
